What Can’t Go in Containers for an International Move?

When it comes to international shipping, there are regulations and restrictions on certain items. Some things simply can’t go in your shipping container due to safety, legal, or customs reasons. Here’s a general list of items that you cannot ship internationally:

  • Perishable Goods: Foods that can spoil, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy products, and other perishable items, are not allowed.

  • Plants & Soil: Most countries have strict quarantine laws, and plants, soil, and gardening tools can carry pests or diseases. Importing these items may be prohibited.

  • Hazardous Materials: Items like paints, chemicals, pesticides, flammable liquids, and cleaning products are considered hazardous and cannot be shipped.

  • Valuables & Currency: Cash, jewelry, or other high-value items should not be packed in your shipping container. It's recommended to carry these items personally during your travel.

  • Weapons & Ammunition: Firearms, ammunition, explosives, and other weapons are illegal to ship in most countries.

  • Live Animals: Some countries restrict the shipment of live animals, or require extensive paperwork and quarantine. Be sure to check with us for guidance on specific regulations regarding pets.

  • Electronics (in some cases): Certain electronics with high-value components may require special documentation or handling. If you’re shipping sensitive equipment, we’ll advise you on the best approach.

  • Toxic or Radioactive Materials: These are prohibited worldwide due to their hazardous nature.

  • Large Items (without approval): Oversized or heavy items might require special shipping methods like air freight or freight-forwarding and may need separate handling.

Tips for a Successful International Move

  • Plan Ahead: International moves require time and attention. Starting early will give you more control and reduce last-minute surprises.

  • Customs Know-How: Different countries have different rules. We’ll guide you through the customs process to avoid any setbacks.

  • Smart Packing: Think about what you really need. Shipping costs can add up quickly, so it’s a good idea to pack only the essentials.

  • Stay Connected: We keep you updated every step of the way, so you’re always in the loop.
